The City of Hope Children's Homes

The City of Hope's children's homes are not your traditional, institutional, orphanages. Each family unit has an atmosphere of Christian love and affirmation, meeting the significant emotional needs created by the sickness and death of one or both parents. A family unit will have a maximum of twelve children with house parents. The Children's home will have an initial capacity of 300 children.

Teamwork Children`s Homes will help the local children remain a continuing, vital part of their communities. Before the AIDS crisis, most orphans in Tanzania were cared for by extended family members. But now, the extended family network is stretched to the limit and weakening to the point of deterioration.

The Children's homes will be self-sustaining growing their own gardens, as well as having cows for milk and chickens for eggs.

As of December 2007, both the children's home and mission center are under roof. The plastering (inside and out) is 40 % completed on the children's home and 80% completed on the mission center. The first children will be moved in by the end of May. Remaining need for finished work and furnishing $250,000
