The Vision
of The City of Hope:
The City of Hope is a revolutionary concept. It
is a revolutionary way of bringing hope and transformation
to those in desperate, hurting situations. It
is about bringing hope to communities and to nations.
It is about building a city where there is no
city. It is about overcoming obstacles to see
lives transformed.
The City of Hope is a new concept that was conceived
in the heart of Dr. John N. Chacha. The concept
has been embraced by many partners and friends
of Teamwork Ministries worldwide. Working together
with local leaders, as well as Teamwork partners,
this vision was birthed. Currently we are building
a model City of Hope in Western Tanzania. Dr.
Chacha's vision is to multiply this concept across
the nations of Africa.
This City of Hope is about:
- Giving children skills for life
- Bringing healthcare to a region that has none
- Building economies through micro-financing
and farming.
- Educating and training.
The City of Hope includes a children's home but
it is not just another orphanage. It is not just
a place just to provide a warm meal and a warm
bed. It is a place of equipping children to become
the leaders of tomorrow. It is a place of transforming
mindsets, instilling leadership principles, winning
attitudes and preparing the children to become
the future leaders of their nations and communities.
The City of Hope includes a medical center but
it is more than a hospital it is a training center
for things such as hygiene training, child care
and aids awareness.
The City of Hope is a unique place - a training
center geared to raise up church leaders - productive
members of society; a place on instilling biblical,
relationship and economical principles that will
help them succeed. The City of Hope is not place
of nurturing the memories of yesterday but a place
of activating and releasing the individual purposes
of the children, the workers, those who come for
training and those who come as missionaries. Our
goal is not just to train the children but also
to equip a community - it is about community transformation.

1. The City of Hope
Headquarters for Teamwork Children's Homes
The AIDS epidemic that is ravaging the people
of Africa has left scores of their children alone,
homeless, and without hope. In some areas, the
majority of the adults have either died or are
infected and the children carry the burden of
raising the family. Many wander into towns, living
on the streets, being forced to steal to survive.
Some turn to sniffing glue to deaden the pain.
Others are kidnapped and sold as sex slaves. Death,
hopelessness and despair surround them. These
children are also at a high risk of being misused
and exploited at the work place as they try to
earn a living to support their siblings. UNICEF
reports that there are over 12 million orphaned
children in sub-Saharan Africa, and about 1.5
million in Tanzania alone. The number is accelerating
rapidly largely due to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
. The City of Hope is providing a solution to
the growing crisis:
- The City
of Hope - Family Units
The City of Hope Family Units consist of an adult
or couple with no more than 12 orphaned children.
These Family Units are not just places to provide
a hot meal and a warm bed it is a place to provide
hope for the future by transforming mindsets,
instilling Biblical principles, and changing attitudes.
This will create a strong future community, and
raise many potential national and church leaders.
It is not a place of continuing the patterns of
yesterday, but a place of releasing a generation
of leaders to be productive members of society,
and powerful people of purpose. The City of Hope
will release leaders with a vision of a future
that goes to new heights never thought to be possible.
Our goal is not just to train children but to
equip a community to transform itself.

3:
City of Hope Medical Center
Teamwork has started construction
on a medical center that will include a clinic
and women's center. The goal is to reduce infant
mortality and deaths due to complications of
childbirth. Medicine and treatment will be provided
for a variety of health needs. There will be
programs to teach infant care, health and hygiene.
This will make a profound difference, as there
is no other medical center in the area.
The walls have
been built up to the level of the windows. We
need $1.5 million for construction.

4: A
Farm
Teamwork has already acquired 25 acres of land
and is in the process of buying cows. The City
of Hope has started planting to prepare for the
children who will come to the home in April. We
have already identified institutions that will
buy our produce.
Our goal is to develop
200 - 500 acres for farming. We will train nationals
with modern agricultural techniques and harvest
cash crops along with milk, eggs, poultry and
beef that will make the City of Hope self-sustaining
as well as provide needed jobs. We have already
brought the first tractor into this area that
has begun to transform the way things have been
done for hundreds of years. The farm will provide
food for the residents of The City of Hope, as
well as provide cash crops to meet other needs.
Besides gardening and crop farming, goats, cows
and chickens will be raised. To buy 200 more acres
and two more tractors, we need: $410,000.
|
Our
first step to make the City of Hope self-sufficient
is to start a mini-dairy farm to provide milk
for the children of The City of Hope.

5: Teamwork Academy
In addition to the small school
and training center within the compound of The
City of Hope, we are planning to build a regional
high school that will go beyond traditional training;
providing life skills and preparing students for
their vocations. There is a great need in the
area for more children to attend secondary school.
We have located the site and are estimating that
we will need 1.5 million to build and furnish.
Our vision is to build a school that will not
only provide head knowledge but change mindsets.
The school will not only bring traditional training
but provide life-skills which prepare students
for vocational careers.
Some of the skills taught will include:
- computer skills - mechanics
- carpentry - financial management
- sewing - academics
We will build a private, national Christian high
school. Schooling remains an essential element
of a robust individual and societal future. Education
is an important element to fight back against
the AIDS/HIV pandemic and the conditions of cyclic
poverty. Many students in this area do not have
the opportunity to go past an elementary education
as there is no secondary school nearby.
We have located the site and have estimated that
we will need 1.5 million dollars to build and
furnish.

6: A Bible School
This school will focus on Bible and leadership
training in order to equip the people to go to
the surrounding areas and plant churches among
the unreached people.

|
7: Micro-economics
Transforming mindsets from thinking rags to
thinking possibility - bringing hope where there
is no hope. We have identified several businesses
that will help bring economic development to the
region as well as support The City of Hope. We
will also consider micro-financing for residents
in the area who desire to start small businesses.
To transform a community there are essential
elements that must be taught:
1. train new ideas & concepts
2. give a little help
3. small loans big results

|
Ongoing Support:
Though we need great support to start The City
of Hope, it will be self-supporting once everything
is in place. The support will come through agriculture,
such as livestock and crop sales. There will also
be income from the construction, woodworking,
sewing, and other skills the children will develop.
About the location:
Though the remoteness adds to building expenses,
we are building The City of Hope in a remote village
with good reason. We desire to keep the children
in the own cultural environment where they can
continue to be a vital part of the community.
We also desire to keep them in an area of stability
and protection - unlike what they would experience
in a large city.

Why Dr. John N. Chacha
is uniquely equipped to lead the working out of
the vision of The City of Hope:
- Dr. John N. Chacha is a native of East Africa.
Though he has resided in America for many years,
he has never forgotten then needs of his people
and never lost touch with them. He knows first
hand the devastation of poverty and ignorance
and the transformation that can come with truth,
education and help.
- He is well able to bring people together towards
a common goal. He understands cultural differences
and how to work with various people.
- He has a gift for making a little money go
a long way and is able to see much accomplished
even with limited resources.
- He understands the economic struggles that
go along with ministry in underdeveloped areas.
- Dr. Chacha is in a unique position of favor
to work well with governmental leaders, from
the president's office to the village elders
in western Tanzania as well as other areas.
Ex. The local leaders in Tanzania have recently
aided the construction of the City of Hope by
building roads to bring construction materials. The
President of Tanzania is planning to attend
the grand opening of the City of Hope Hospital.
