Kenya Crisis

Dear Friends,

A Paradise under siege:

Kenya is my country, a land of my childhood. I have fond memories of this beautiful nation. If you have been there you will agree that Kenya is a piece of paradise. Our ministry, Teamwork Ministries, has used Kenya as our base to train and equip thousands of leaders. Many of them are now missionaries all over the world.

Some of these places that are now being destroyed, such as Kisumu, Eldoret, Naivasha, Gilgil, and Nakuru, are like home to me. It is with great pain that I see these places under fire. The spirit of madness, murder and revenge is roaming the nation of Kenya. Please pray for my country.

Note: The City of Hope which we are building across the border in Tanzania is not affected, except that it has become difficult and expensive to acquire supplies for construction.

Thousands of tourists that normally flock from all over the world; Europe, Asia, Australia, and the USA, to enjoy the scenery and the beauty of Africa, have stopped going to Kenya. This is a place where hundreds of movies have been made, including "Out of Africa", "Walking With the Lions", "The Ghost of the Darkness", "Hatari!", and many others. This is the land of the lion. It is a nation where, compared to many other African nations, democracy has gained a foothold. Yet this land, where many tribes have co-existed and where the economy, like a bud of a plant had started to blossom, is now being ripped apart by political chaos, tribal conflicts, and the spirit of revenge. This is threatening to undo the progress that has already been achieved.

The church in Kenya is suffering. We know of churches that are no longer in existence because their church buildings have been destroyed and the members scattered. Others have lost their lives and businesses. Thousands of families have been ripped apart and some of them will never be able to be re-united. Here is an excerpt from an e-mail I received from Bishop John Kivuva - a friend of mine:

"Gilgil has been the most peaceful town in Rift Valley where all the fire from hell is burning. Most people from Eldoret, Burnt forest, Lodian who were rescued and escorted by the Military officers ended up in Gilgil town where the military has their base. The last week has been the worst, because the military delivered about 350 children to our Church who spent several nights. I got serious threats that the Church would be burnt down and moved the kids from the Church to the police stations where we are feeding them. The situation is getting worse. Please pray and keep the country in your special prayers. We are feeding both displaced and traumatized people at the Church, about 990 people every day who come to pick up meals and live with friends and Church members in Gilgil. My Church in Gilgil is the main distributor of relief food in Gilgil town."

--------------------------------

We are making an appeal to our friends to help us reach out to the suffering body of Christ in Kenya. The need is great but we cannot let the enormity of the problems discourage us from lending a helping hand. Several years ago, I watched the movie, Hotel Rwanda. I believe that many of you have seen it. Now this is your chance to help restore a nation going through similar crisis.

In two weeks, I will be leaving for Kenya. I will personally make sure that any funds given for this purpose will be placed in the right hands. Once again, thank you for your prayers. We are praying that peace and unity will be restored back in paradise.

May God Bless You,

Dr. John N. Chacha
