Dear friends and partners,

Greetings from The City of Hope! I have extended my stay here by one week to finish some things that urgently need my attention. I will now be arriving home on Easter Sunday.

Today, I was thinking what it means to be a true disciple and to serve Christ in the world.

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 18:19-20

It is because of the greatness of God and the authority that Jesus has given us that we can go, in His power, and make disciples. That is what the church is called to do. We have been given all authority; authority to share His Word in power, to bring deliverance, to bring healing and to make disciples, not just of individuals, but of the nations.

We realize that you can meet people's physical needs and wants but unless their hearts and minds are transformed, the same problems will repeat themselves. Jesus said, "The poor will always be with you." Health-care, provisions and education are tools we can use to reach people's hearts; tools to open doors and to share the love of Christ and the power of His resurrection. Meeting physical needs alone is not the answer, though it is important. It is through touching the hearts of individuals that we can impact the nations.

I have been so encouraged to meet many individuals who have been affected positively by Teamwork materials and Teamwork Bible School. They have traveled to meet me at The City of Hope to tell me of the powerful effect these materials have had on their lives. They now want to see what we are doing and how they can be involved. Many of these people are now impacting their communities at various levels of influence: spiritual, education, healthcare, business, media and politics. This is what we want to do in a great way through The City of Hope. We want to see people saved and their lives transformed. We give glory to God for the transformation that is already happening in the area spiritually as well as economically.

As we educate and train both children and adults, we will send out teams to plant churches, start businesses and impact other communities at various levels. Our goal is that Christ be glorified and people saved and delivered from their sins and from the mindset of poverty and ignorance.

Building Progress

The building project is going well, but we are trying to catch up on many things since we were greatly affected and delayed by the situation in Kenya. This situation inflated many of the costs in the entire East African region. We thank God that things have calmed down there. Please continue to pray for Kenya and for our work at The City of Hope. We still need more funds to finish the buildings.

We are having fun as we work to finish the missions center and children's home. This week we started digging and preparing the sewage system. The weather has been quite unpredictable; sometimes it is hot and sometimes it is rainy. The other day, the pit we had dug was filled with water during a rainstorm and we spent two days draining it. After working long to dig another pit, we realized we couldn't get it deep enough because of the rocks, so we had to start over at another location. We plowed a cornfield two weeks ago and as soon as it dries up, we will plant it. Unfortunately, we have been so busy using the tractor to haul supplies, rocks, gravel, sand and water that we have not yet been able to plant. These are the challenges we are facing but we are overcoming them all.

We praise God that we should be able give many children a home by the end of June. We have started identifying children for our home, but unfortunately, there are more children than we can accommodate. The decision of who to bring to our home and who not to is very difficult. We feel badly that the place is too small to meet the great demand of so many homeless children. We are excited, however, that we can at least provide a home for a few orphaned children (300 when at capacity) who would not have had this opportunity otherwise.

Become Involved

Please help us to finish building The City of Hope so that the real work of ministry can begin. We believe that this is a new day for Tanzania and what we are doing is a prophetic action releasing what the Lord has for this nation. Tanzania is a country of destiny, a nation of wealth, but yet it is among the most underdeveloped and poverty stricken in the world. Our prayer is that what we are doing will awaken the spirit of inspiration in many people so that they will reach out to those in need in their own communities, believing God for true transformation.

I am making an appeal to those who have a calling to the nations. If God has put Africa on your heart and you are intested in either short term or long term missions, please get in touch with us so that we can be in partnership. Please pray with us to discern what part you can play in bringing this vision to fulfillment. We have listed several opportunities available this summer but there are many other options as well.

Thank you and God Bless You,

Dr. John N. Chacha
