Dr. Chacha's itinerary

Dear Friends;

Greetings from The City Of Hope! Believe me, we are working hard here and I am enjoying every minute of it. We work from 6 AM to late at night. It is NOT EASY to transform a community, especially mindsets. Every day we are faced with new challenges. In America, it is easy to just walk in a store and buy what you want. Here, simple things can become big issues. Sometimes, you have to travel far to buy simple things like cement, nails, and parts for equipment. Sometimes, we have to wait for a long time for a single item to come in.

People seem to live in the state of "forever." In other words, there is no hurry or rush to do anything. Simple projects become complicated because of transportation and communication difficulties. However, we are having fun building The City of Hope. We are on the winning side. I am so pleased with the progress. The entire plastering for the mission center will soon be done, which will only leave the painting, plumbing and electrical. The plastering for the children's home is about 40 percent complete.

We are already finished with the foundation of the first building of the five that will make up the hospital. In fact, the walls are up to the window level. We are excited with the progress.

The hospital will not only be used to treat people, but also to train mothers how to care for themselves during pregnancy and how to care for their babies. We will also teach hygiene, first aid, and AIDS awareness. It will be a place for medical teams to come and help in training and in performing special surgeries that are beyond the expertise of the local doctors (cataract surgeries and rehabilitative surgeries). This hospital will be a place to save lives, both physically and spiritually, a place to bring hope to the hopeless.

Please help us keep the money coming in. We are still far short of what is needed.

Yours in His Service,

Dr. John N. Chacha
